No one knows for certain what Sarah Winchester's interest in spider webs came from. It is known that she was interested in the occult. It has also been suggested that the spider web represented the American Indian dream catcher, which held evil spirits at bay while allowing good ones to pass through. (I was a tour guide at the Winchester Mystery House.)
