{"id":484,"date":"2009-01-15T02:30:41","date_gmt":"2009-01-15T07:30:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jasonmorrison.net\/content\/?p=484"},"modified":"2009-01-15T13:02:19","modified_gmt":"2009-01-15T18:02:19","slug":"a-twitter-experiment-15-movies-30-hours","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.jasonmorrison.net\/content\/2009\/a-twitter-experiment-15-movies-30-hours\/","title":{"rendered":"A Twitter Experiment: 15 Movies, 30 Hours"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been known to do geeky things.\u00a0 For one, I&#8217;ve been experimenting with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonmorrison.net\/content\/2008\/i-love-hospitals-with-wifi-or-twittering-childbirth\/\">putting parts of my life on the web live via Twitter<\/a>.\u00a0 For another, I&#8217;ve been going to a <a href=\"http:\/\/films.cwru.edu\/marathon.html\">30-hour science fiction movie marathon<\/a> with friends for the past 14 years.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s time to merge the two together in a <strong>Twitter Experiment<\/strong> this weekend.\u00a0 Starting on Friday, 7 p.m. EST I&#8217;ll be posting updates to Twitter about the movies, ridiculous sci-fi plot devices, funny cracks from the crowd, and the general movie marathon experience.<\/p>\n<p>Now for some questions and answers:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q:\u00a0 How can I follow along?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/iamjason\">Follow me on Twitter<\/a> and watch the snippets roll in.\u00a0 Alternatively, if you&#8217;re connected to me on Facebook you can watch my status updates, it&#8217;s the same thing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q:\u00a0 I&#8217;m going to be there, how can I participate?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Let me know in the comments below, we&#8217;ll make it a thing.<\/p>\n<p>EDIT:\u00a0 Use hashtag <strong>#marathon34<\/strong> in any Tweets.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q:\u00a0 Why would anyone have even the slightest interest in this? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A:\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/films.cwru.edu\/marathon.html\">CWRU Science Fiction Marathon<\/a> is really an excuse for a bunch of sarcastic people to shout insults and rejoinders at a movie screen.\u00a0 It&#8217;s like a huge, live-action, sleep-deprived version of Mystery Science Theater 3000.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q:\u00a0 No, I mean why would anyone have the slightest interest in you going to a movie marathon?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A:\u00a0 Point taken, its not like I&#8217;m famous or anything (outside of being <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonmorrison.net\/content\/2008\/appearance-on-the-morning-show-in-australia\/\">temporarily internet famous in Australia<\/a>, of course).\u00a0 Luckily many of my readers are friends, colleagues, and a bit geeky themselves. If you&#8217;re going to get a tiny-text-snippet tour through a science fiction marathon, though, I might as well be your guide &#8211; I have a fair knowledge of the genre, I used to be a movie reviewer, and I like to make sarcastic comments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q:\u00a0 How is this possible?<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A:\u00a0 An iPhone, and WiFi or the regular data connection, that&#8217;s how.\u00a0 I might also play around with my G1 phone with Android a bit.\u00a0 If my connectivity fails for some reason, I reserve the right to basically give up and pretend I never even mentioned it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>One other thing I just can&#8217;t leave out of this post &#8211; when I mentioned this to my coworkers, they poked fun.\u00a0 My coworkers at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonmorrison.net\/content\/standard-disclaimer\/\">Google<\/a>.\u00a0 That&#8217;s right, I&#8217;m officially too geeky for Google.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been known to do geeky things.\u00a0 For one, I&#8217;ve been experimenting with putting parts of my life on the web live via Twitter.\u00a0 For another, I&#8217;ve been going to a 30-hour science fiction movie marathon with friends for the past 14 years.
